THE YELLOW JACKET BRIGADE
The Mission of the Yellow Jacket Brigade
The mission of JROTC is to provide leadership, character, and citizenship development and training. The success of our mission rests on our performance in the three areas of academic performance, positive behavior, and participation in school and, in particular, JROTC activities. Every class in JROTC is graded. Student behavior is evaluated constantly in light of commonly accepted character traits. Participation influences both grades and potential for advancement in JROTC. The eight Yellow Jacket Mile requirements listed farther down the page support our mission by providing specific standards, behaviors, and procedures governing the three areas of academic performance, positive behavior, and participation. It provides an evaluation system that allows us to select only our best students for leadership positions.

We also provide tutoring and a mentoring program for our students based on recommendations from parents, teachers, counselors, and principals. The tutoring program takes place during their regular JROTC lab class. The mentoring program also takes place during class, but may continue after school.

There is no class fee for JROTC and the uniforms are loaned free of charge!

PARENTS AND STUDENTS
JROTC is not a core subject, but the subjects we teach enhance our student's ability to learn and to apply knowledge in any situation that requires it. It is not known as an academically rigorous course, yet attitudes and habits change for the better as a result of participation in our classes and activities. We offer an enriched class to our juniors and seniors if they qualify. It is not physical education, but JROTC has its own physical program and it meets or exceeds state mandated or any possible national requirements for physical education. Generally, students get as much out of JROTC as they put in since JROTC operates totally on the team concept and participation is required in order to learn.

JROTC is not like cheer leading, dance line, or pep squad, but our drill teams perform exhibition routines prepared by our students in public, in local to national venues.

National statisitcs show that JROTC students have a lower drop out rate, a higher graduation rate, a lower discipline rate, are more connected to school, and generally make better grades. These facts exist primarily because we are able to work with inidvidual students in areas that affect these issues. These facts, coupled with the large size of JROTC, make our students a positive influence in school.

JROTC instructors are federally certified and meet all the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act. We have completed 20 plus year careers in the Army. The average age of the soldiers that we taught, led, and trained was between 18 and 19 years old, so we bring years of relevant leadership, management, and training experience to the job of teaching high school students. We bring a different perspective to the field of education because of our mission oriented military background.

The JROTC program is nationally accredited by CITA and SACS. We are provided with the latest innovations in equipment and curriculum to better teach and train our students, yet retain the flexibility to address specific areas of instruction in support of the school and our students.
